Ghana, Jamaica holds 2019 reggae dancehall music festival

Reggae and dancehall music lovers were on Saturday, enthralled to some local and Jamaican reggae tunes as part of activities to mark the 2019 “year of return.”

JahGha Fest, as it was called was aimed at promoting the Ghanaian and Jamaican culture, as well as to foster unity among the said nations through music.

The festival attracted hundreds of Ghanaians from all walks of life, including Ghanaians based in Jamaica, as well as foreigners living in Ghana.

It also gave opportunity to unknown local reggae and dancehall artistes to showcase their talent to patrons.

Mrs. Donna Amoah, Organizer, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sideline of the occasion said, the organizers, Edge of the World Production, chose music to promote the culture, because it had the power to foster unity.

She expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism and the Ghana Tourism Authority for their unwavering support toward making the event a memorable one.

Mrs. Amoah however urged the Government to take advantage of such programmes to boost tourism in the country.

“I know the Government is keen on growing the tourism industry in the country and I think this is a great opportunity for the country to exhibit its rich culture.

“We know that tourism is rampant when there is festival going on”, she added.

She also called on corporate organisations to provide support, both financially and in kind to enable event organizers put up more programmes to help grow the tourism industry.

“Securing sponsorship for the organization of the programme was very difficult. I think people are skeptical when something is new so I am hoping that securing sponsorship for subsequent events will be much easier.”
